Pomme d’Api is a non-profit, parent-run preschool, administered and operated entirely by parents.

Parent participation is essential to developing a sense of community, keeping tuition fees low, maintaining and improving existing infrastructure, supporting our teachers, and ensuring the best experience for our children. Volunteer roles are assigned each year and span practical, administrative, and liaison duties.

We entrust our teachers to teach our children and let them use their expertise to do so, and the parent community runs the rest of the school. This way the teachers' main focus is always on our children.

Families are required to participate in three main ways:

  1. At least one parent from each family must volunteer their time for the operation and administration of the preschool.

  2. All families must participate in fundraising activities.

  3. At least one parent from each family must attend general parent meetings.

VOLUNTEER HOURS

Families are expected to volunteer a minimum average of 2 hours a month (20 hours over the school year) in a volunteer role that is suitable to their schedule and skills. A prorated fee of $250 is applied to families who have not fulfilled the minimum volunteer requirement. Parents will fill out a Parent Participation Form at the beginning of the school year to indicate their preferences. Note that volunteer roles will be assigned based on the needs of the preschool.

FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES

A volunteer committee organizes fundraising activities throughout the year. All families are expected to participate directly in fundraisers and indirectly by sharing them with friends and families. Fundraising is crucial for the continuance of Pomme d’Api because the organization is unable to meet all of its financial obligations based on tuition alone.

Meetings

The school usually holds two general parent meetings each year, including the Annual General Meeting in September, where Board positions are elected and the budget is reviewed. Free child care for registered students and their siblings is available in the Pomme d’Api classroom. Note: Meetings will be held online during COVID-19.
