Pomme d’Api has made a number of adjustments due to COVID-19.

physical spacing

In this age group, it is difficult to enforce physical distancing, so measures are taken in the classroom to encourage physical spacing between children. For example, the teachers conduct circle time with the students at their tables, rather than gathering the students together.

Disinfecting

Extra time has been allotted to classroom disinfecting after each class, and more professional cleanings have been added.

Dedicated supplies

Each child can bring a personal set of supplies (e.g., pencil crayons, markers, scissors, and a glue stick) for their own use.

Masks

Parents must wear masks during pick-up and drop-off. Children are not required to wear masks but may choose to do so, both inside and outside the classroom.

drop-off and pick-up

Parents are expected to line up 2 metres apart for drop-off and pick-up; markers have been placed on the ground to facilitate distancing. Sign-in and sign-out occur at the front door. Hand sanitizer and individual pens are provided.

Limited entry

Parents generally may not enter the preschool during class to avoid crowding in the classroom.

Health checks

Parents are expected to assess their child for symptoms of COVID-19 before sending them to school. Regular review of the BCCDC’s Daily Health Check Forms is encouraged.

BACK-UP plan

In the event of a second school closure due to COVID-19, digital platforms may be used to continue instruction and social connection.
